Samaras Aid Appeal results and thank you – 3rd June 18

We have now finished Samaras Aid Appeal for refugees in Syria for this year.  A big thank you so much everyone who donated aid and those volunteers that helped in various ways.

Together we have given the following aid for refugees:

·      193 banana boxes of sorted summer and winter clothes, shoes, and hygiene items

·      55 bags of bedding

·      9 wheelchairs

·      5 zimmer frames and 1 delta frame

·      12 pairs of crutches

·      9 walking sticks

·      1 buggy

On 21th April we had 19 volunteers for the sorting and boxing day, 24 volunteers on the 5th May at Holy Cross Church and 7 KCC/Amey staff at KCC Aylesford Depot on 18th May. Volunteers were sorting the aid using Samaras new quality standards to ensure we only sent excellent quality items.  To make this Appeal happen over the last few months Jacqui has had the help of over 75 volunteers helping in different ways plus Tesco Grove Green providing the empty banana boxes.

Volunteer drivers and helpers successfully delivered this aid to Samaras Warehouse in Worthing in 2 very large, full vans on Friday 25th May. Samara was at the Worthing warehouse on Friday to accept the aid and she sends lots of thanks to everyone involved with collecting and sorting so much aid.  It was lovely to meet such an inspirational, courageous lady again.

Our aid from the Bearsted/ North Downs and KCC Aylesford Highways Depot has joined over 1,800 banana boxes of aid and mountains of bags and bedding already at the Worthing Warehouse.  During week commencing 4th June this will be loaded onto a shipping container and taken to Syria via Felixstowe. 5 other warehouses around the UK will also be sending shipping containers to Syria too.

The shipping containers with our aid will then arrive in Damascus, Syria and will be distributed by Samara's team and aid partners to those refugees who have fled from IS particularly from the East Ghouta area.  Once the shipping containers are empty of the aid, they will be converted into medical units, 'Meditainers' and used to expand Samaras Emergency Hospitals in Deir-Ez Zor or Aleppo.

We have made a difference by working together and in the coming months when the aid is distributed, refugees in Syria will know we care about them in the UK.

If you wish to donate to Samaras Aid Appeal, Samara organises 3 aid collections a year and needs as much financial help as possible in shipping and distributing the aid and for the emergency hospitals in Syria that are crucial for saving lives.

Please donate at www.samarasaidappeal.org/giving or set up a monthly standing order.
