The
first drama production to take place in Holy Cross Church was in the mid
nineties. The production was “Joe Carpenter and Son” by Graham
Clarke. A delightful nativity story in a more contempory setting.
The next play to be performed was some years later in 2001 when an informal drama group was assembled to stage "Murder in the Cathedral", by T.S. Eliot. An atmospheric production, staged by candle light with the Choir adding music, the play told the story of the murder of Becket, in 1170, by order of the King. At the beginning of 2004 another band of players was brought together to stage a "Passion Play" using a script adapted from a series of scenes written by J.B. Phillips. This time the cast was assembled from Holy Cross, St Peters Catholic Church, the Methodist Church and Bearsted Community Church - the play was then performed at St Peters Catholic Church. March 2006 saw another ecumenical production performed, entitled "No Name In The Street", by Edward Murch. This was a short play that focused on the passion story from another perspective. This was our first attempt at going "on tour" and was performed in three Churches - St Nicholas, Otham, Holy Cross, Beasted and St Peters, Bearsted. Some wonderful lines and an ending with a twist provided thought provoking entertainment. |
