Sunday Services

Holy Cross offers a wide range of worship with the aim of ensuring that people feel 'at home'. Please see the diary for the times of services next week in case of any alterations. Below is a guide to our services.

Please note New Way Services take place in the Memorial Hall, and occasionally in a local school. Please check the Diary to confirm location.

8:00am Holy Communion

This is a traditional service without music using the 1662 prayer book.

9:45am Classic Sung Eucharist

A well-attended service with hymns and choir. There is a crèche each week and on Sunday each month we have a less formal All-Age Eucharist (see Diary).

10:00 / 10:30  New Way Service (Memorial Hall)

New Way is an informal service, at the Memorial Hall, with Music Bands, and provides a focal Christian message which can include times of discussion, activities, and creative times of prayer. Come for refreshments from 10:00 for service start at 10:30. There is a créche, for the under 4s, at every service, and we love to have these children and their parents with us, and provide a relaxed atmosphere for all to enjoy. The Hall is fully used as Seekers (the younger children), and Rock Solid (the youth) go to their own rooms and activities, and join with the whole congregation at the beginning and end of every service. Please see New Way for more details.

Messy Church (Thurnham School)

We have 'Messy Church' at Thurnham School once a term at 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon.  See New Way.

6:30pm Choral Evensong

Evensong, using the Book of Common Prayer, features a wide selection of traditional church music sung by the choir. The service is usually held on the second and fourth Sundays at Holy Cross. The dates for Evensong are liable to change. Please check the Diary to confirm.

Taizé

This service is based on the worship of the Taizé Community in France. Taize is held alternate months (see Diary) and attracts people from other parishes and denominations.

Weekday Services

Besides the Sunday services at Holy Cross, and at the Memorial Hall, there are also the following weekday services, held at Holy Cross:

9:15am Morning Prayer

This is a said service, lasting about 25 minutes, and takes place every weekday morning, except for public holidays.

Toddler Praise

A Toddler and baby service is held once a month on a Friday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm in the Holy Cross Church Room. Parents, grandparents and carers with children aged 0 to 4 years are welcome to come. Each month there is a theme from a Bible story with activities and songs. This informal session ends with refreshments, playtime and a chat.

Mid-week Holy Communion

This is held at 10:00am on the third Wednesday of each month and is normally a said service, although on occasion we may sing a hymn. Worshippers join together for tea or coffee after the service.
