Maidstone Churches Winter Shelter

Holy Cross is a supporter of the Maidstone Churches Winter Shelter and several members of our congregation have volunteered to help on a regular basis.

Our aim is to provide free evening hospitality including a hot meal and overnight shelter for homeless people in Maidstone. Using church buildings staffed by volunteer teams, we hope to take the uncertainty and stress out of trying to find overnight accommodation during the coldest nights of the winter.

Our inclusive approach to overnight support for the homeless means that guests can benefit from a dry, warm bed, a hot meal and the generosity and kindness of volunteers.

Through Christian compassion and without discrimination, church and other

volunteers will make everyone feel welcome and provide friendship and support to every overnight guest. We will work with our partner agencies to assist homeless people to move on to appropriate accommodation, resisting dependency on the shelter.

Following the success of the pilot launched last winter, Maidstone Churches Winter Shelter intends to form a sustainable funding model and create administrative support to deliver and develop the project in future years as a Charitable Independent Organisation.
